Since its inception, the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development has viewed advocacy and social justice as part and parcel of cultural competence. Over several decades, AMCD has been in the forefront of multiple and sustained efforts to erode social injustice and quality of life experiences for culturally diverse individuals and other socially marginalized populations. These activities have been fostered by the various cultural and ethnic constituents within the organization, such as the Ethnic Concerns groups, as well as by outstanding scholars in our field. New methods of research investigation, innovative interventions, and pedagogies for counselor training have been offered. More recently, many AMCD professionals have become involved in disaster outreach nationally as well as globally to address disparities in disaster response and the confounding effects of systemic oppression and disaster. Of most significance, AMCD members have persistently held the view that countering all forms of oppression is of paramount importance to the organization. Noose Hanging Incident Self-Care Workshops
